But the secret of the spark between him and that Harley lay elsewhere, nestled among images of old films, black and white photographs, dark workshops at the bottom of which ownerless motorcycles desperately tried to resist the assaults of time and rust.
Leather jackets ruined by use, faded jeans and dusty boots, gas stations glimpsed through the windows in the middle of the plain, long lines of motorcyclists parading in the dark through sleepy towns.
Below is some miscellaneous stuff: some old articles from the column WITHOUT WINDSCREEN that I used to write in Freeway Magazine and a couple of my exploits as a marathon runner: just so I don’t have to sit on my ass all the time…
For a few years I was the “Bad Tobia” who wrote under a false name on Beppe Severgnini’s famous Italians. (I would have preferred something a little less reminiscent of a Yorkshire puppy.

A degree in mechanical engineering in his pocket, a job at an international financial company and two great passions: motorcycles and travel. Passions that led him to visit on board his Harley Davidson, starting from Italy, faraway places such as India, Pakistan, Algeria, South Africa, Morocco and more.
First we visited the Gargano, then here the Plain and the olive trees of Campi Salentina where we were guests of the eminent Prof, Alfredo Calabrese, bibliophile and historian of Salento in his beautiful house museum. Now we are on the Adriatic coast in Spongano with friends. The sandy Ionian coasts of Punta della Suina and Punta Prosciutto are beautiful, as is Porto Badisco on the Adriatic, but we still have much to see.
A bitter question. In summer, the number of deaths on the roads increases and most of them travel on motorcycles. You make intercontinental trips with your motorcycle. What advice would you give to motorcyclists to avoid accidents?
The next appointments with Roberto Parodi are in September with the release of his new book “Manuale di Viaggio per motociclisti overland” (Travel Manual for Overland Motorcyclists) published by Mondadori and then, of course, the next series of “Born To Ride” on Italia2.
